Flirting with the Law of Attraction

Thanks to the publicity and energy surrounding Ronda Byrne's The Secret, more people find themselves flirting with the Law of Attraction than ever. And winning with it!

This begs the question that many skeptics are asking, which is "Does this Law even work?"

Let's take a look at that and see what we can glean from the evidence, such as it is and the tales told by the successful progenitors of the concept of "New Thought" or whatever else you like to call it.

What is the Law of Attraction?

First of all, what is this conveniently labelled "law" and how is it supposed to work?

According to researchers and advocates of developing mental awareness and focused thought, this is a law that has its basis in a more commonly understood law of physics that we all know a bit more about, which is all to do with "energy" and its properties.

We know that everything is made of energy and energy itself is a force defined by its vibration frequency, which is not constant and in fact encompasses a wide range of frequencies from almost nothing to almost infinity.

Oh great. How easy a concept is THAT to grasp, let alone try to understand!

Well, it's not all that difficult really, as long as it is explained in simple terms as possible without turning it into a child's comic strip style explanation.

Atoms!

Try to imagine the model of the atom, since that's where we know all our "everything" boils down to. In its simplest diagrammatical form there is a nucleus made up of protons and neutrons encircled by electrons orbiting the nucleus in a vaguely circular motion.

We know that the electrons are the "energy" part of the atom and as they orbit the nucleus, they cause the atom to vibrate at a certain frequency according to the number of components of the atom itself and its proximity to other atoms. That gives us the vibrating nature of energy that we can measure with our technical instruments and know what frequency that energy is vibrating at.

We also know that atoms (energy) of like nature attract each other while atoms of different nature repel each other. That's why certain groups of atoms come together to form molecules that give us the elements that we all know and understand (at least the scientifically minded of us anyway).

The Law of Vibration

Bearing all that in mind, we can move on to the Law of Attraction, which is based on the physical laws of vibration (frequency). What it says simply is that like energy is attracted to like energy, while unlike energy repels.

Ergo, like vibration frequency attracts, while unlike vibration frequency repels.

Since everything is energy, including all matter and since we are made of matter (which is energy) we will attract others to us that are in the same vibration as ourselves.

Not only that…

Therefore our emotional state is governed by our thoughts.

When we think thoughts of a certain vibration (say, "happy" thoughts) they will place our body in a happy emotional state. We transmit that vibration out into the ether and it is received by another person or circumstance that is in a like vibration state.

To put it simply, when we are happy, we attract other happy people and happy circumstances to us. If we are fearful and unhappy, we attract fearful and unhappy people and circumstances to us.

This is actually well known and has even been translated into parable, for example:

You get the idea.

Learning and Teaching the Law

The way to use this attractive law is to get yourself into the necessary mental and emotional state so that you will attract to you the people and circumstances that mirror what it is you desire. It takes a good deal of practice and not a small measure of self-discipline, but it can be done.

Not only that, but it is being done and being loudly shouted about by some of the big names in personal development, like Tony Robbins, Bob Proctor, Dr Joe Vitale etc.

In fact, you can even train as a certified law of attraction practitioner thanks to an online course authored by Dr Joe Vitale himself (follow that link to read all about it)!

That's as much as I want to say about this subject for now. However, I may expand upon it at some later date as the mood takes me!
